Background & Objectives: Suicide phenomenon, which is one of the most important complications of the industrialized world, is most affected by disorders, mental disorders and social inequalities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of suicide attempt and suicide in the population covered by Dezful University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: The data of this descriptive-analytic study included sex, suicide method, residence, marital status, age and literacy of suicide attempters in population covered by Dezful University of Medical Sciences (Dezful, Shush and Gotvand cities) in 2013-19. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS software using chi-square test.
Result: A total of 3958 suicide attempts and 205 suicide deaths were recorded , The suicide trend in the was declining. Most of the suicides and suicides resulted in death in female (60.1%, 2503), drug use (2719, 65.3%), and in urban residents (51.8%, 2158). The age group of 15-24 years (2063, 49.6%) and with secondary education (1114, 26.8%) were observed. There was also a statistically significant relationship between drug use and death.
